China Enacted Air Emission Standard for Pesticide ManufacturingOn December 25, 2020, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued the national standard,“GB 39727-2020 Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Pesticide Industry”, which will mandatorily take effect on January 1, 2021.

The current air emission limits were specified in the “GB 16279-Integrated Emission Standard for Air Pollutants”, which is universally applicable to all industries and gradually incompatible with the trend of industry consolidation. Compare to GB 16279, GB 39727 established a dozen universal limits and characterized limits of typical pollutants from the production of intermediates, active ingredients(ai) and pesticide formulation. The newly established facilities have to abide by the standard by January 1 2021 and the existing facilities need to comply with the standard by January 1, 2023.

Total volatile organic compounds are calculated based on various substances (typical pollutants) depending on the raw materials used, manufacturing process, by-products and final products. 11 categories and dozens of active ingredients have been established with typical pollutants:
