The 44th Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues has begun yesterday (23 April) in Shanghai. During the six-day conference, 237 participants coming from 59 countries/districts and 8 international associations will review over 300 draft standards proposed for the residual limits of 27 pesticides in agro products. These include maximum Pesticide Residuals (PR) limit draft standards for cypermethrin in tea products, and acephate and methamidophos in brown rice, proposed by China. 12 subjects including compiling guidance on PR limit for small plots of crops, PR risk analysis principle and agro products categorization, etc. will be addressed on the meeting.

From Agropages — 7 March 2012, the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) held a symposium in Beijing on glyphosate mixture registration management, addressing the issue of the mixture of glyphosate and herbicide as well as consequences of such mixture, participated by nearly 20 experts from pesticide management, R&D and production departments. Rules on nomenclature for agricultural botanical varieties are issued to regulate China’s corporeal seed market order The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) has published today the Rules on Nomenclature for Agricultural Botanical Varieties (MOA Order No 2-2012) in order to strengthen the naming management and maintain a sound market order for China’s corporeal seeds. The regulation is going to come into effect from 15 April 2012.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) lately issued the Chinese 12th Five-Year Plan on Pesticides Development, suggesting to foster two to three large-scale pesticide manufacturing enterprises with international competitive strength and capable to produce over RMB 10 billion worth sales during the period of 2011-2015.

From Agropages.com news on 19 January, the ICAMA registration report published by Agropages said totally 148 active ingredients (AI) were granted ICAMA registrations in 2011, among which 56 were the first time to get approvals.

2012 will see an increase of 4.37% in demand for pesticides in domestic Chinese market.  

China withdraws production certificate on 9 pesticides; 22 highly toxic pesticide products to be phased out from the Chinese market

Chinese pesticides import and export companies should apply for the release permit of their products based on the goods ID and corresponding product name in the new inventory.

This Regulation is promulgated by the State Council of P.R. China to supervise and control manufacturing, marketing and use of pesticides/agrochemicals in China. It entered into force on May 8, 1997, and was revised on 29th November 2001 according to the decision of China State Council. Two subordinate regulations were issued by China Ministry of Agriculture to provide guidance on implementation of this Regulation.
