On 25 Mar 2019, China MoARA issued the Announcement 148 to ban all agricultural uses of Fipronil insecticides. The injunction aims at fulfilling the requirements contained in the “Food Safety Law”, “Regulation on the Administration of Pesticides” and the “Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants”.
All applications for new registration and renewal of Fipronil technical, single and multiple compounded formulations shall not be accepted starting on 25 Mar 2019;
All pesticide registrations and production licenses of Fipronil shall be revoked as of 36 Mar 2019;
The agricultural uses of Fipronil will be prohibited starting from 1 Jan 2020.
The insecticide is also used on pets as veterinary medicine and all veterinary medicine registrations are not affected.
