China Revises Efficacy Evaluating Rules for Termite Control Products

On 14 Dec 2012, an Expert Meeting on the revision of evaluating rules for termite control products was held by the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) in Hangzhou.

Efficacy tests for the non-crop use pesticides share the same degree of importance as the field trials of crop use products as the rules and evaluation methods will be reviewed by the inspectors to issue the ICAMA registration to a pest control product. Although the original six efficacy evaluating guidelines for termite control products (NY/T 1153.1-2006 ~NY/T 1153.6-2006) were implemented on 1 Oct 2006, the methods are no longer adequate for evaluating the products of new types and designed with new mechanisms nowadays. More scientific testing and evaluating methods are introduced in the revision, including toxicity study of the technical/formulated products, toxicity transmission in the formicary, efficacy tests of soil spraying treatments, painting/spraying wood treatments, baits, residual spray treatments for residential and forestry, dusting treatments.

The experts agreed that the revision was more customized to China’s requirement on the efficacy evaluation and environmental protection on termite control products. The ICAMA officials expected that the revision could be approved by the superior and published in no time.
