On 24th, Mar 2016, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) released the omethoate residues and dietary risk assessment report, covering the residues and dietary risk arising from the treatment of food crops with omethoate. The assessment considered the available data and recommends the any of the current uses of omethoate on food crops cannot be supported.
The residue assessment for the review of omethoate was undertaken by the APVMA Residues section and the dietary risk assessment follows the a revised ADI(Acceptable Daily Intake) from from 0.0003 mg/kg/day to 0.0004 mg/kg bw/day and establishment of an Acute Reference Dose (ARfD) of 0.003 mg/kg bw for omethoate by the Office of Chemical Safety. The assessment studied the use pattern and the available residue data and concluded that the below use will no longer be satisfied:
Acute dietary exposure concerns | Insufficient residue data provided | Home garden use |
The use pattern of barrier spraying for red legged earth mite and use on ornamentals remain acceptable from residue perspective and the regulatory decision of omethoate review will be proposed and public commented later this year.
