China and Egypt Reach Pesticide Mutual Acceptance of Data Agreement

On Jun 17 and Jun 18, a meeting between Chinese and Egyptian agrochemical authorities was held in Beijing during which a memorandum on technical cooperation between the authorities was signed. The most interesting outcome is that the two countries have reached an agreement on mutual acceptance of data for pesticide registration, which will greatly facilitate the trade of agrochemicals and pesticides between the two countries.

Under the invitation of ICAMA, the President and Vic-President of the Egyptian Agricultural Pesticide Committee (APC) visited China from 16 June to 25 June. The Chinese and Egyptian officials exchanged opinions on regulatory systems, data requirement for pesticide registration, and import-export management practices. The Egyptian guests also visited physical-chemical, toxicological and environmental GLP labs and pesticide manufacturers in Beijing and Jiangsu.

The APC is commissioned by the Egyptian Ministry of Agricultural and land reclamation to oversee the registration, marketing, use, import-export and assessment of pesticides in Egypt, (very similar in function to the China ICAMA). Egypt is very dependent on crop protection product imports with over half of the pesticides used in Egypt being imported from other countries. Egypt is also a major destination for Chinese pesticides exports.
