On 10 Oct. 2014, China AQSIQ and SAC (Standardization Administration of China) held a press conference announcing the official release of environmental assessment test guidelines for chemical pesticides. These guidelines were all published in Chinese national standards and relevant policymakers were invited to make further introduction and explanation on these guidelines.
The “guidelines for environmental safety assessment test on chemical pesticide” consists of 21 parts, which were compiled by ICAMA and 12 other research institutes. Most of the cardinal principles and technical approaches in these guidelines were equally or equivalently adopted from OECD’s test guidelines. However, the “Silkworm acute toxicity test” and the “Marco-crustacean test” are China specific.
The guidelines are utilized in the determination of the environmental fate and eco-toxic effect of chemical pesticides, and will provide technical parameters for management and research of chemical pesticide. It is believed that the implementation of these guidelines will improve China’s environmental risk assessment on pesticide and reduce the impact of pesticide use on China’s environment.
These series of test guidelines will take effect on 11 Mar 2015. The standard code and the name of these guidelines were summarized below:
