The specialized group meeting on production condition practice of non-SL formulation herbicide paraquat is under way in Beiing. Production of the SL formulation of herbicide paraquat will banned from July 1, 2014, according to the Joint Announcement No. 1745.

The meeting organized by Raw-material Industry Department under MIIT, will be focused on the production condition practice of new formulation of Paraquat including Soluble Granular and Gel formulation.

Several pesticide manufacturers in China have applied for the pesticide registration and production approval of new formulation of paraquat since th release of Announcement No. 1745, which indicated that the SL formulation of paraquat will be banned to be marketed or used after July 1, 2016. However, most of them have been objected because the competent authorities considered that the production condition of new formulation paraquat still poses risks to the public. There are only two new paraquat products which have gained the pesticide registration in china, namely, 20% Soluble Gel of Redsun and 50% soluble granular of Luba, which have been approved for registration just after the release of the announcement.

The meeting will reopen the door and save the lifecycle of parauqat, the most important herbicide in the world.
