IBAMA fined 69 agrochemical companies for failure to submit mandatory data on the volume of pesticide imported, exported, produced or marketed. 17 repeat offenders were also made public by IBAMA
On 13 Dec 2016, Brazilian IBAMA announced that 69 agrochemical companies have been fined for not submitting the mandatory semi-annual report on the volume of pesticide they import, export, produce and market. IBAMA has issued 134 evasion notices relating to 180 non-submitted reports. The financial penalties imposed on the 69 companies involved totaled R$207,000.
Decree 4074/02 is the implementing regulation of Brazilian Pesticide Law (LAW 7802/89), which stipulates that companies engaged in production, importing, exporting and marketing of pesticide shall provide a report on the volume of production, importation, exportation and marketing to the federal and state competent authorities by 31 January and 31 July each year. IBAMA is one of the authorities that should receive these reports.IBAMA took similar action in 2012. At that time, 61 companies were fined for the evasion of 248 reports. 17 companies were found to have failed to submit the report in both 2012 and 2016.
