On 10 Jul 2013, the 10th session of the National Committee on the Assessment of Pesticide Residue Standard was concluded in Beijing. 223 MRLs of 35 pesticide active ingredients, which have been open to public consultation since on 4 Jun 2014(see ChemLinked news Release on 11 June 2014) were reviewed and approved by experts. The Deputy Director of China ICAMA urged the Committee to speed up the process of MRL establishment to narrow the gap between the standards of China’s agricultural produce and international MRL standards.
After approval by the National Committee, the MRLs will be submitted to other WTO members for further review and incorporated into China’s national food safety standard, the “Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticide in Food (GB2763)”. The latest update of the standard “GB2763-2014” was made on 20 Mar 2014 which will replace GB 2763-2012 and will take effect on 1 Aug 2014(see ChemLinked news release on 1 April 2014). We can expect further changes to MRL standards pending the WTO authorization of the new MRLs.
