18 pesticides using 9 new active ingredients have been approved by Chinese National Expert Committee of Pesticide Registration, most of which are Bayer’s novel Herbicides: Triafamone, Terfuryltrione, Flurtamone and Flufenacet;
New pesticides disapproved by the Committee can be granted with temporary registration and marketed within the validity period of this temporary registration;
On 23 Dec 2016, China MoA released the meeting-minutes of the 20th session of the 8 National Expert Committee of Pesticide Registration, which concluded on 2 Dec in Beijing. A total of 36 pesticides using 18 new active ingredients were reviewed for full registration. 18 pesticides using 9 new active ingredients were approved, of which 4 herbicides were submitted by Bayer CropScience: Triafamone, Terfuryltrione, Flurtamone and Flufenacet.
Bayer’s novel penflufen fungicide failed to obtain the approval due to environmental persistence and two herbicides, florpyrauxifen from Dow AgroSicence and Metazosulfuron from Nissan were also rejected. These pesticides have obtained temporary registration in the last three years and thus can still be marketed and utilized in China within the validity period of this temporary registration. The Committee suggested that the criterion on environmental degradation half-life should be further defined and the Environmental Panel of the Committee was designated with responsibility to compile the technical proposal, which will be discussed during the next session.
