On 11 May 2015, China ICAMA released a correspondence opening a 20 days public consultation on the optimum ratio of gyphosate to glufosinate in these product formulations. The institute is collecting scientific suggestion with a view to opening registration on mixed formulations in the future.
The institute has received registration applications for these active ingredient combinations from several domestic applicants, however the ratio of active ingredients in different applications varies widely. The institute intends to determine the best ratio for formulation containing gyphosate and glufosinate by carrying out validation tests and comparison studies using both laboratory experiments and field trials.Glyphosate is the most exported and registered herbicide in China. Due to the problem posed by glyphosate resistant weeds and a recent drop in prices, Chinese producers have been looking to glufosinate, which sells at a higher price and is more effective against resistant weeds. The number of registration applications for glufosinate has increased dramatically in recent years.
