Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) have jointly released a notice on August 16, 2012 and asked the competent authorities to strengthen inspections on domestic marketing activities in the crop protection market. The MoA warned that speculative operatings such as price hikes, hoardings, selling and producing of shoddy products will be investigated and the offending distributors and producers will be held accountable.
China is currently ridden with pest outbreaks as army worm’s rampaging in the North while the plant hoppers are raging around southern paddy areas, consequently, the pesticide products are in huge demand and illegal sales and uses of the insecticides are prevailing among the crop protection market.
The MOA urged competent authorities to increase inspections on the pesticide distributors and producers. The distributors will be traced back to their original supplying sources of the goods if the counterfeits were founded in their stores. It is suggested the distributors and retailers to make record of the suppliers, varieties and amount of the goods, and ensure that all their goods are correctly labeled and marked with ID numbers of the registration certifications, which were issued by the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture. Also, the authority is to frequently sample and test the pesticide goods and the pesticide manufacturers are pressed to enforce quality assurance in their operations.
The authorities warned that illegal activities will be seized and punished and the nefarious cases will be exposed to the public. The semi-official organization, China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) promptly responded that Chinese manufacturers have prepared adequate stocks of some hot products such as imidacloprid, acetamiprid, avermectins and pyrethroids.
