Philippines Implements Blanket Ban on Endosulfan
The Philippine Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) passed a resolution in late January, banning Endosulfan technical and its alpha and beta isomers and other formulations.
Philippine has joined the Stockholm Treaty on Persistent Organic Pollutants. According to the Treaty’s 2011 amendment endosulfan is listed as an organic pollutant, making the ban a clear sign of the Philippine’s commitment to the treaty.
Philippine has already banned the use of endosulfan on paddy crops since 1993 and the content of formulated products for other uses was reduced to 5% or lower. The FPA also conducted annual evaluation and approval for the use of Endosulfan from 1995 to 2008.
