China will implement the new National Food Safety standard, the “Maximum Residue limits for Pesticide in Food (GB2763-2014)”on 1 Aug 2014. The GB 2763-2014 was jointly published by the MoA and NHFPC earlier this year(see Chemlinked news Release on 1 Apr 2014).
The new MRL standard was described as the “most stringent food safety standard in history”. It contains 3,650 limits for 12 categories of 284 kinds of food commodities.65 pesticide active ingredients have firstly been established into the standard and the number of subject active ingredients was enlarged to 387, of which 350 active ingredients are commonly used in China. 2,495 limits were established for 115 kinds of vegetable and 85 kinds of fruit and over two thirds of the newly added MRLs are for fresh-keeping commodity, 483 limits for fruit and 431 limits for vegetable( including edible fungus). Of all the limits in GB 2763-2014,1,999 limits coincide with the Codex Alimentarius(CAC) standards and 1,811 of them are equivalent or above the CAC standards.
