On 21 Aug 2018, Taiwan BAPHIQ (Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan) concluded a technical advisory meeting regarding chlorpyrifos dietary risk mitigation measures. An injunction forbidding its uses on 13 agricultural commodities is expected to be publically consulted on in September.

On 28 May 2018, Taiwan EPA solicited opinion on a new charging policy for environmental agents. Administrative charges on certain registration and license categories would be doubled and charging scope would expand to include pesticide for export only purpose, experimental use permit (EUP) and certificate supporting tariff reduction for imported technical materials.

On 17 Apr 2018, The Toxic and Chemical Substance Bureau under Taiwan Environmental Agency released their annual monitoring report of environmental agents. In 2017, 40,720 advertisements, labels and products were inspected and the qualification rate was 99%. One notable violation prompted Taiwan’s EPA to issue a public warning against mosquito repellents imported from Japan.

On the 25th of Feb 2015, Taiwan BAPHIQ (Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan) invited public consultation on the exemption of 6 pesticides from registration requirements.

On 7 Nov 2014, the Agricultural Chemicals and Toxic Substances Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan (Taiwan TACTRI) updated the application form for data review on pesticide registration. All templates for each registration and extension category are now available for download at TACTRI’s website.

Currently the most important regulation on non-agricultural pesticides in Taiwan is the Environmental Agents Control Act (Taiwan EACA), which was updated by Presidential Order on 27 January 2006. The EACA stipulates that chemical agents or microbial preparations used for environmental sanitation and pollution control are subject to this regulation. Classification and Registration Permit Generally, environmental agents can be classified into the following three types by their product features and application range: Insecticides, miticides, rodenticides, bactericides/fungicides used for environmental sanitation, and other chemical agents used against target organisms (Sanitation Environmental Agent); Synthetic chemical agents used for preventing air, water, or soil pollution, or treat waste, which should be officially announced by Taiwan EPA(pollution control agent); Natural or artificially-modified microbe organisms or their metabolites used for preventing air, water, or soil pollution, or treat waste all of which should be officially announced by Taiwan EPA (microbial environmental agent);   Depending on the role they play in the supply chain and the supervision they are subject to, environmental agents can be also distinguished as technical grade environmental agent, general use environmental agent and special environmental agent: Technical Grade EA: raw material containing the active ingredient and utilized for manufacturing or processing general use environmental agents or special environmental agents General Use EA: manufactured or processed from the Technical Grade EA and used in a similar manner. The concentration of active ingredient(s) should conform to the limits designated by Taiwan EPA; Special Environmental Agent: manufactured or processed from the Technical Grade EA or other chemical agents designated by the central competent authority, SEA shall be used following specific safety protection measures.

On 22 May 2014, Taiwan Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agricultural, Executive Yuan (BAPHIQ) issued a warning outlining that MCMV (Maize Chlorotic Mottle Virus) infection had been identified in a corn field in Taiwan. The Bureau is taking measures to increase supervision on seed import management and pest control

On August 15 2013, Taiwan Council of Agricultural (COA), Executive Yuan issued the Announcement 1021487388 and Announcement 1021487384 to ban the fosthiazate 75% EC and restrict 3 other formulated products.

On July 16, 2013, Taiwan Council Agricultural (COA), Executive Yuan has issued the Announcement 1021487246 to invite public comments regarding amendments to the rules for the spot checking on pesticide residues.

On July 12, 2013, Taiwan Council of Agricultural (COA), Executive Yuan issued the Announcement 1021487227 and the Annoucement 1021487233 to ban 10 and restrict 39 formulated pesticide.
